MTN is one of the largest communication networks in Nigeria providing virtual services to its esteem subscribers. In the past 48hours, MTN subscribers couldn’t recharge or perform various banking activities virtually due to a disconnection issue from Nigerian banks.
It was gathered that the commission fee imposed by bank on users have been the lingering issue of disagreement between bank and telecommunications giant MTN. Despite official notification by banks, MTN charges it, 77million subscribers, 2.5 percent instead of the new tariff of 3.5percent.
According to the PUNCH, MTN has switched to another virtual platform that performs a similar banking role to its subscribers. The platform includes Kuda bank, flutter wave, Opay, etc for recharge purposes. This has generated concern in the heart of many Nigerians who are used to USSD as they were unable to recharge directly from their banks during the Easter celebration.
In a statement released by MTN, millions of subscribers were to encouraged to recharge using *606# or *904#. This USSD is directly linked to Fintech companies who have delivered a masterpiece user experience in time past.
Dr. Isa Pantami, minister of communication and digital swung into action to revert the decision and create a virtual banking experience with MTN. This intervention enables MTN and bank reconciliation and subscribers can now use USSD services.
“We have reached an advance stage of resolving the issues, for the services to be restored to our citizens”– Dr Pantami said
